  1. I don’t know if what I write may be relevant but I received several phone calls regarding pop ups, slow computer speed etc. but frankly I would like answers. I believe I have been scammed. They spent a lot of time trying to be helpful but it was expensive but queresly he was believable. Hope you can help.

  2. I received a call several weeks ago from someone claiming to be from Windows Care. It was a number from New York City. The guy had an Indian accent. He said “We’ve noticed your computer is running slowly. It must be full of viruses.” It WAS but I didn’t know how HE would know that. He said they would clear the viruses from my system. At this point my computer was so infected with viruses that I could no longer get on the Internet but at least I could still work off line in safe mode. He had me type in several codes. Also my landline is not in the same room as my computer so I had to give him my cell phone number so he could talk me through the steps. at one point my user i.d. number appeared on the screen and he asked me to read him that number. After I read him the number he was able to remotely take control of the curser and he started clicking on different things and showing me how many viruses were infecting my computer- 31.000! He kept me on the phone for half an hour and I had to go because I had some other important business to attend to. I told him I had to go and hung up on him. He called again and said that he could give me 2 years of antivirus protection for $190 or 3 years protection for 2oo something. He asked for my credit card number and I said I didn’t have one but I could sent a check. He said “NO, you have to pay electronically. I wanted me to get a pre-paid debit card and wire the money via Western Union to an overseas account and I said No way! This sounds like a scam to me. I’m not interested. I’ll just buy my own antivirus software. He said No, it’s not a scam! It’s Windows Care! Well, I hung up on him and he tried to call my land line and my cell number repeatedly for several minutes but I wouldn’t answer. HE eventually gave up but when I went back to my computer He left it in a state that was completely unusable. I had to enter a required password and none of the passwords I had ever used worked. I took it to a computer repair shop and they tried to fix it but in the end I ended up having to buy a whole new computer. Cost me over $700 bucks! Ugh!
