How to remove WinAntivirus Pro?

What is WinAntivirus Pro?

WinAntivirus Pro is a rogue anti-spyware program that, as shown by the general design of their website, must be a clone of XPAntivirus and Windows Antivirus Pro. This parasite, like other rogues, is prone to use misleading information and scare tactics to persuade users to buy the “full version” of the program.

WinAntivirus Pro must be downloaded and installed manually. Instead of the more aggressive approaches to scamming, the makers probably hope that the design will give enough credibility to buy the thing. Either way, what happens is, someone downloads a trial version of WinAntivirus Pro, it performs a “security” scan and shows a fake report full of non-existent threats. Removing these “threats” is supposedly possible with the full version, which is obviously not true. Many users are, however, naive, desperate or lacking information enough to buy it.

The best way to avoid being scammed by WinAntivirus Pro is not to download it in the first place. However, if you happen to be infected by trojans that spread WinAntivirus Pro to other systems, use our WinAntivirus Pro manual removal instructions to get rid of it.

WinAntivirus Pro is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only WinAntivirus Pro can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads WinAntivirus Pro trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, WinAntivirus Pro offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, WinAntivirus Pro does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as WinAntivirus Pro, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install WinAntivirus Pro, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as WinAntivirus Pro, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as WinAntivirus Pro?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

I was infected by this program in Sept. 2007. My system ground to a halt and made working impossible. I had to have my hard drive cleaned and re install all my programs. I lost valuable work files and documents. This is a particularly vicious piece of malware. It seems to learn as it goes. For, example, when I tried to install spybot or any other legitimate anti virus program my pc would freeze up and make installation impossible. A few years ago 2 distributors of this malware were identified, James Reno of bytehosting and billingnow, and Marc Cohen of vip fares. We need some serious changes in the law to allow the prosecution of people who distribute malware. Long prison sentences would be in order as would asset seizure.
