How to remove Unigray?

What is Unigray?

Unigray is a new rogue anti-spyware program that hit the Web in early March 2008. This one masquerades as the ultimate anti-virus program: its supposedly main functions include scanning for viruses and repairing system errors, while protecting your system from threats in real-time mode. Needless to say, its true function is to grab your money and do none of the above.

Unigray can only make its way to users’ PCs if they manually download and install it. In other words, only if you’re extremely gullible, will you lose your money to this scam. Mostly, this threat is available for download via various shareware download websites and warez sites of questionable security.

What Unigray does is it allows you to perform a scan, then presents a report that has a huge number of errors, that don’t actually exist. Except one – the MonaRonaDona, which was created by the same people who designed Unigray. Scared yet? If so, you will pay money for the full version, which is needed to remove these errors and get nothing out of it, except perhaps the moral joy of donating money to scammers.

What little information there on the official Unigray website is, everything suggests that the makers of this program are not native English speakers and don’t have the money to hire someone who is. This line from their website is priceless: " virus and malware attacks creates hurdles & problems from using the computer freely".  This, combined with indirect suggestions that users should indeed buy Unigray, happy user testimonials, etc. makes this website quite possibly the hardest to believe in at least a few months.

Unigray is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Unigray can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Unigray trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Unigray offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Unigray does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Unigray, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Unigray, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Unigray, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as Unigray?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
