How to remove Total PC Defender?

December 28th, 2009

What is Total PC Defender?

Total PC Defender is a rogue anti-spyware application that uses various misleading methods to trick you into believing that your computer is infected with malware. This fake security software supposedly performs a system scan and displays premeditated infections. In order to make this scam more effective, Total PC Defender 2010 shows many fake security alerts and notifications stating that your computer is under attack or that Trojans will steal your private information if you won’t purchase the full version of the program.  However, in reality Total PC Defender is just another scam and should be uninstalled from the system as soon as possible.

We can’t say that Total PC Defender is somehow different comparing with other scareware. It’s promoted through the use of Trojans and usually comes from fake online scanners or bogus websites. The rogue program can also be “pushed” using social engineering methods. However, please note that TotalPCDefender removal instructions stated below may not work fully if your computer is infected with different Trojan viruses. Usually, Trojans block system tools that has to be used during removal process. So, first of all, try to remove Total PC Defender manually (instructions below). If manual removal fails, then download Spyware Doctor and run a system scan. If that fails too, then you have to end the main process of Total PC Defender malware (Total PC Defender.exe) because it blocks Task Manager, Registry Editor (Regedit) and probably any executable file to protect itself from being removed.

What to do if your computer is completely taken over by Total PC Defender? You may try to boo your computer in Safe Mode with Networking and run Spyware Doctor again. Of course, that won’t remove all infected files but at least you’ll have control on your PC. If Safe Mode is also disabled and you don’t want to re-format your hard drive then you can use a bootable rescue disk. You can download one from Avira Antivir website. You will have to use another PC and burn a rescue disk to a CD media using CD/DVD burning software.

As you can see, Total PC Defender is a totally useless application. Most importantly, do not purchase it. Then please use the removal guide below to remove this infection from your computer as soon as possible. Total PC Defender fake security alerts:
