How to remove StorageProtector?

December 7th, 2007

What is StorageProtector?

StorageProtector is a rogue optimizer and a copy of another such program – WinPCDoctor. It claims to be the ultimate tool to make your system work to the max, but in reality it is just another scam: you are intimidated into paying for the full version of the program, which does nothing.

StorageProtector makes its way to your system via Trojans such as Zlob and it can also be manually downloaded and installed. When active, it bombards you with pop-ups and system notifications, all of which say that you have errors all over your system. They can supposedly only be removed using the full version of StorageProtector, which is fake and does nothing beneficial whatsoever.

The program’s homepage is a complete copy of WinPCDoctor’s homepage, which in turn was copied from yet another scammy website. Every detail is the same, except for the name. That being said, the same errors are also intact to provide us with useful hints that this is a fake program. "StorageProtector starts functioning immediately upon installation followed by a quick download" so I guess you install it first and then you download it, convenient, but eerily reminiscent of science fiction. For a "leader in the internet security field", StorageProtector made a few too many grammar mistakes in my opinion. There are no contacts available and the website is registered to a person from Slovenia, whose email address is "no_name_inc@yahoo.com", a fact that does little to ensure credibility.

Do NOT download or buy StorageProtector, if you have it – remove it and block storageprotector.com using your HOSTS file.

StorageProtector is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only StorageProtector can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads StorageProtector trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, StorageProtector offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, StorageProtector does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as StorageProtector, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install StorageProtector, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as StorageProtector, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as StorageProtector?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

i turned the Pc on today, what i found was two new icons on my desktop, they were- “Windows Update” and “help and support centre” , What i noticed was it took about 10 mins for the pc to start up.. usualy takes about 1min. It was laggy and unstable and fustrating to be on. I see lots of popups randomly coming up saying “Download StorageProtector and it will fix your unstable computer..etc..”

Well i cant delete the icons and its still lagging like hell and i found about 3000 random “pos” files in my documents..?? plus the popups still come up and make me have to restart my pc( by crashing it) , This virus/malware has to be stopped..Ive tried 3 different programs to remove it today. None did the job. Im trying your one right now-hope it works..

    thanks
