How to remove SpyOnThis?

What is SpyOnThis?

It has been a while since a rogue security program came up and I was beggining to worry. Relief came only today, October 17, 2007, and the program is called SpyOnThis (with a required exclamation mark at the end). I found the name strangely absurd, but I realise that most names in the field have already been taken. That aside, SpyOnThis is quite simply a program that likes your money, but doesn’t enjoy giving it back quite as much. Downloading it is completely up to the user – it won’t be sneaked in by some parasite.

What SpyOnThis does is it provides you with a free trial version of the program, which will perform a scan and try to intimidate you with many a non-existent threat and fail to remove them unless you pay for the full version (a bogus one). SpyOnThis doesn’t seem to have an adware program of its own, thus making it substancially less annoying than most are. The supposedly effective full version costs from $29.95, if it’s a single computer you want to believe you’ve protected, to $104.95 if you want to buy it for 5.

The homepage of this "magnificent tool" is not out of the ordinary, maybe except for the fact that it has no "buy" section, so it takes the masquerade of being free to a whole new level. It does have user comments, and, judging by the number of times the word "bravo" ir used, it is quite easy to comprehend that they were all written by the same person. I haven’t seen anyone or anything being called "best EVER!" on its release day. Another feature is quotes from noted sources, such as PC World and BBC, these are supposed news quotes, further scaring you into downloading.

SpyOnThis is a scam and should be treated as such, which means : Do NOT download it, Do NOT buy it and block SpyOnThis.net in your host files.

SpyOnThis is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only SpyOnThis can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads SpyOnThis trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, SpyOnThis offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, SpyOnThis does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as SpyOnThis, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install SpyOnThis, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as SpyOnThis, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as SpyOnThis?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
