How to remove SP Center?

September 6th, 2010

What is SP Center?

SP Center is a dangerous and harmful security program which was recognized on the Internet in the beginning of September. For a successful distribution, it uses fake online scanner websites and Trojans viruses, capable to break in without any permission asked. If people accidentally visit any of SP Center’s sites, they are showed fake virus scanners that imitate “checking” the system for viruses and, of course, display not a short list of detections. After users are made to become worried about their machines, a free version of SPCenter is then suggested for fixing everything reported.

No matter how it gets on board, program, which just like Control Center later turns out to be a malware, is then set to start as soon as computer is rebooted. This is done by simply incorporating some malicious files to Windows. SP Center then starts posing to scan the system for viruses again and “detects” numbers of files that will be described as the critical ones, dangerous for the whole computer’s functionality. SP Center also uses fake pop-up ads, alerts and notifications that report something like that:

Warning! System was detected critical privacy violations and system errors.

Don’t believe these messages and simply ignore them because some of legitimate your system files may be reported on them as well. The main reason why they are dispalyed is the possibility to sell so called “full” version of SP Center by telling that only this version is capable to remove detected viruses.  This scam won’t stop its misleading activity trying to convince you that you need its licensed version, so remove SP Center as soon as it appears on your desktop.

For other users, we recommend using Spyware Doctor or other malware and spyware removal applications found on 2-viruses.com.

SP Center is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only SP Center can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads SP Center trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, SP Center offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, SP Center does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as SP Center, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install SP Center, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as SP Center, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as SP Center?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
