How to remove Soft Veteran?

What is Soft Veteran?

SoftVeteran is a rogue anti-spyware program from the WiniBlueSoft family of rogues, which has created countless clones during the last several months. This parasite is no different than it’s predecessors in the sense that it uses trojans and drive-by downloads to infect PCs, and also because it relies on misleading advertising to trick people into purchasing it’s “licensed version”.

Upon entering the system SoftVeteran does several things: it starts displaying popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform the user of an infection or multiple infections present on the system, in hopes of persuading him to download SoftVeteran. It will also perform fake scans, which mark harmless files as threats and urge the user to purchase the so-called “licensed version”, which is no more functional than the trial. SoftVeteran will hijack the browser and block security software, so as to prevent removal. Like most modern rogues, SoftVeteran may block Task Manager, Safe Mode, Registry Editor, and System Restore.

The home of this scam, softveteran.com, was created only a few months ago, which is suspicious for a company as reputable as these people claim to be. The domain is registered to a person, rather than a company, which is strange, and this person’s contact email is Gmail. The country of the registrant is listed as France, but it appears the server is in Russia, a country notorious for malware.

This program is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download it and remove SoftVeteran as soon as possible.

Soft Veteran is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Soft Veteran can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Soft Veteran trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Soft Veteran offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Soft Veteran does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Soft Veteran, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Soft Veteran, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Soft Veteran, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as Soft Veteran?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
