How to remove SaferScan?

What is SaferScan?

SaferScan, while usually considered to be a rogue anti-spyware program, is actually something else, albeit simillar. This program has one of the most useless uses: SaferScan has vouched to combat traces of porn wherever they might manifest. Their slogan seems to be "Don’t get caught watching porn!". Whatever the case might be, SaferScan can’t even fulfill the little goal it’s said to be good at fulfilling.

Investigating SaferScan I came to a conclusion that it was pretty harmless so I ran the scan. The program found every file and cookie with a name which can theoretically be porn-related, includding music and other innocent material. Upon finishing SaferScan suggested I buy a remover to dispose of these "traces of porn". To my surprise, I wasn’t linked to a page where I can buy SaferScan’s full version and instead found myself in power-cleaner.com, where I had the choice to purchase this program (after having read a fake testimonial and a few nonsensical phrases, of course).

Power Cleaner seemed to be a rogue, so I browsed around a bit in their website and was rather intrigued by the "Affiliates" section, which included such titles as "BrunoB – the king of facials", "Lesbo101", "Pornication" and of course "CumOnBoys (one big step out of the closet)". The affiliates were to be expected though, who would be more interested in removing porn traces from their computers, than the king of facials? The Testimonials section is somewhat big-brotherish and sports the title "Testimonials satisfied customers". I have no idea why it is so, since they are clearly fake. Needless to say, there is no contact information to be found.

Do not download or buy SaferScan: it is a part of a scam and should be treated accordingly. Block safer-scan.com and power-cleaner.com using your HOSTS file.

Manual SaferScan removal

Important Note: Although it is possible to manually remove SaferScan, such activity can permanently damage your system if any mistakes are made in the process, as advanced spyware parasites are able to automatically repair themselves if not completely removed. Thus, manual spyware removal is recommended for experienced users only, such as IT specialists or highly qualified system administrators. For other users, we recommend using Spyware Doctor or other malware and spyware removal applications found on 2-viruses.com. It is impossible to list all file names and locations of modern parasites. You can identify remaining parasites, other SaferScan infected files and get help in SaferScan removal by using free Spyware Doctor scanner. It comes with free real-time protection module that helps preventing SaferScan and similar threats.

SaferScan is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only SaferScan can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads SaferScan trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, SaferScan offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, SaferScan does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as SaferScan, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install SaferScan, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as SaferScan, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as SaferScan?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
