RegClean Pro - How to remove

RegClean Pro

Regclean Pro is a registry optimization program from SysTweak. It is an old and legitimate company, however we have issues with how this registry cleaner is distributed and promoted. Regclean Pro promotion methods are similar to rogue products sometimes, though the likely cause is partners of SysTweak rather than the company itself.

Besides the issues with distribution, there are other problems, like the totally unrealistic promises on the program’s home page and the fact that Regclean Pro is just a fake registry cleaner —  a useless program pretending to improve the performance of your PC, one that is more likely to cause problems than solve them. If you want to use an optimizer, there are a lot of more reputable programs. By the way, Regclean Pro’s removal process is not always straightforward, due to its intentionally misleading user interface, so be careful when uninstalling it.

Regclean Pro is considered suspicious by several anti-malware programs — if you had a security program that detects PUPs, it should have caught this one, too.

Regclean Pro is a potentially harmful program that should be uninstalled:

  • Remove junkware if any is found

Distribution of the registry cleaner

Regclean Pro is installed together with software bundles that are malware on itself. We have seen it being distributed with hijackers and even trojans that are disguised as “movie” downloaders that “fail” after installing all the offers. This is an illegitimate promotion tactic. While in most cases one can decline offers, the refusal button is not obvious and might be hidden sometimes. Thus it is not surprising that many PC users think that Regclean installs on its own.

Additionally, Regclean Pro might install other programs developed by Systweak without your confirmation. I was assured, that this is not possible but my tests have shown that if Regclean is installed from a software bundle, you will not be asked for a separate confirmation for Advanced System Protector (their malware cleaner) to be installed. The latter tool after performing a system scan detects parts of the original bundle (from which it was installed) and you are asked for money in order to remove part of the original installation.

It’s also possible to download the program for the official website, though even then, you’re bombarded with offers for the other SysTweak offers.

Is Regclean Pro dangerous?

The program is possible to use for a long time without a lot of issues. However, it does negatively impact the performance of the PC with its regular scans. And if it was installed in a way other than an intentional download from the official website, it’s possible that other junkware is also present on the same computer, and that further degrades a computer’s performance and security.

As for the program’s actual function, Regclean Pro claims to repair and defragment the registry and so boost the PC’s performance and reduce the number of errors — claims that are unlikely to be true. While it’s true that sometimes editing the registry is needed to change some low-level settings, cleaning the registry won’t have an effect on the PC’s performance. Only in very limited circumstances would one need to edit their registry. In fact, it’s very easy to damage and it could literally break the operating system.

Even Microsoft — the company that developed the Windows operating system — does not endorse registry cleaners, only warns against using them. Free native tools for tasks like junk file removal, disk defragmenting, and system file checking have been created for Windows users, but no first-party registry optimizer exists — for good reason.

Remove Regclean Pro

Although RegClean Pro may be uninstalled normally, it offers 2 Uninstall buttons. The bigger one, instead of simply removing the unwanted tool, will install additional Systweak bloatware (including software, advertising company’s support). Thus one should take care while uninstalling this unwanted application and choose carefully which button to press on.

At the moment I suggest not using RegClean Pro, especially if you haven’t installed it yourself from the original website. You should scan your PC with anti-malware programs to detect and remove possible trojans that distribute this PUP. Malwarebytes, Spyhunter would be the best solution.

Additionally, there are multiple parasites with a similar name to Regclean Pro, for example, Regclean 2008, PC Regcleaners, Webmoka Cleaner. These parasites show many false registry errors and force you into buying full versions. These programs should be removed at once.

How to remove RegClean Pro using Windows Control Panel

Many hijackers and adware like RegClean Pro install some of their components as regular Windows programs as well as additional software. This part of malware can be uninstalled from the Control Panel. To access it, do the following.
  • Start→Control Panel (older Windows) or press Windows Key→Search and enter Control Panel and then press Enter (Windows 8, Windows 10). Open Control Panel by searching for it in the Start menu.
  • Choose Uninstall Program (if you don't see it, click in the upper right next to "View by" and select Category). In Control Panel, select Uninstall a program.
  • Go through the list of programs and select entries related to RegClean Pro . You can click on "Name" or "Installed On" to reorder your programs and make RegClean Pro easier to find. Find the program that you need to uninstall.
  • Click the Uninstall button. If you're asked if you really want to remove the program, click Yes. Click the Uninstall button after selecting the program to uninstall. Then click Yes.
  • In many cases anti-malware programs are better at detecting related parasites, thus I recommend installing Spyhunter to identify other programs that might be a part of this infection. Spyhunter marking a program and its components as low-threat malware.

  1. I had a pop up every once in a while which advertised Reg Clean Pro and did a free scan but when I tried the free scan, it would not fix many problems if any and told me that I would have to buy the service if I wanted it. I tried to find it on control panel of software programs to remove but could not find it. When I called the number on the ad, I talked to someone who got into my computer and showed me hundreds of errors which he said could only be fixed by a certified Microsoft engineer. I said I usually call Microsoft and they charge me $49 per problem. He said they could not help me only he could help me and he charged me $350 for a two year program to do first a 3 way clean and a 5 way repair. He said I could use their service for 2 years once a month for a check up or call them any time toll free 877340 9240. I dealt with Ankur Khemani. Some one is cleaning my computer now from India. Have I been scammed? Ankur walked me through my pay pal account after I gave him my master card and he wanted me to run it through pay pal with him on my computer watching me. I could not remember my pay pal pass word so he just ran through my charge for the $350. First he said $199 for one year and when I agreed, he said for 2 years it would be $350. When I agreed he said later on if I wanted 3 years and I said no.

  2. Well, it is a bit grey-zone. First, most of errors registry cleaners detect are grey-zone. They are not harmful, they do not cause large (or any) speed loss and so on. And, in case of real problems, Microsoft engineers can fix them for sure.
So, I would say they lied to you a bit. The most of registry scanners are trying to scare you into using them 🙂
Now it is impossible to tell what errors there were on your PC. There might have been real problems, there might have been exaggerated problems. For me it is not worth 199$/year. I would suggest sticking to using decent internet security suite, scanning with CCleaner (which is free) for registry errors, and, in case of something bad happening, using Microsoft or someone on Crossloop to fix particular problem for fee, or searching for solution on web. I would say it is a bit cheaper 🙂

  3. i recently bought this program and used my debit card. after about 2 weeks we get report for a use of my card elsewhere. i found this article and wondered “is this connected to regclean.” if so i already uninstalled it is that all that needs to be done to make sure my personal security is safe. also i have norton and it does daily scans could these vireses pass norton

  9. notice that some software technologic instances are virus pumpers. Why REG CLEAN PRO which I experienced being a virus pumper is allowed to pop up on people’s PC. and it is difficult to stop that. Where’s people privacy and security? Lots of the software sellers play this game with ordinary people to rob them. Where’s the justice instances specially in USA.?

  21. My daughter installed this so called RegProCleaner on her Acer Notebook. This virus disguises itself as a normal operating program, so most virus and malware checkers do not pick this up. Steps I took to get rid of this program completely are as follows. Start – Run – type in “msconfig” (no quotes) GO TO START UP TAB AND uncheck the listing for “RegCleanPro” then ok and close. –
Then go to – Start – Run – type in regedit. From edit on top of toolbar click find and type in “regclean” and any entry you find right click and delete. F3 to find next. then search for “systweak” and right click and delete the whole folder with that name in it. F3 to find next. Close Regedit. – Then go to c:\ folder (main computer folder) and do a search for “regclean” and any entry found delete it. It should also find an entry in the windows “scheduled tasks” PROGRAM. Delete all of the entries for RegCleanPro. Restart in safe mode, reboot your computer in safe mode(hold down F8 on start up)with command prompt. type in “del c:\windows\system\ime\*.*” without the quotes. (there is 3 folders that contain the program that you are deleting) From the MyComputer icon right click and properties – Restore – check turn off restore (this is so your computer does not back up this program) and do not forget to empty your recycle bin. Restart your computer. Then from the instructions above uncheck turn off restore and restart again.

  23. If Reg Clean Pro does not clear this off my computer promptly they will be dealing with the RCMP Antifraud people as I have advised that I got this due to Explorer 8 Update that I required and found out Avon has their own for free and these people used the bait and switch approach saying free then want monies. I am not paying for something that I can get from Avon for free and if this is not corrected promptly you will be in a lot of trouble as I have had a lot of expense fixing my laptop and if this keeps up you will be paying all the bills I am incurring plus replacing laptop if this crashes because of you. I am not fooling around anymore with you people. Enough is enough. I cannot work on my computer anymore and this is costing me monies everytime you decide to play games with me while I am working. When they get their hands on you for doing this to me you will be put through the fullest extent of the law and may face jail time in addition to fixing or replacing my laptop. Get this fixed and off my laptop or else I’m coming after you legally.

    Darlene Stone

P.S. You are playing with fire here if you think that I am going to put up with this. You are costing me daily and bill getting higher every day. See you in court and if you like dealing with the crown you will find out how they deal with things of this nature!

  24. I have been plagued by the RegCleanPro too and could not get rid of it. I tried the above proposed system from William Sparka, but it did not find the R-C-P program in my computer. Then I went to eHow and used their system. It seems to be working!! I am still holding my breath!

  25. This product made my laptop go exceedingly slow after installation, and I would not recommend it for anyone. It is a rip off. Now I have to take my laptop to the pc doc, which I should have done in the first place. The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
    Cheers, Don

  26. Well, Don, Regclean Pro is distributed with some crapware that can slow down pc considerably in some cases. Especially as they push their own “antivirus”, which might cause such symptoms if you have working one.

  27. Oh my …
I also installed that nasty program and experienced the same problems as you guys.
    It’s so confusing.
However, I’m glad I found this website and have read the troubles of so many others.
Now I’ll try to follow some of the solutions described above and hope to get back to normal.

  28. I got this RegPro and the whole bundle including PC speed up, Advanced System and Optimizer Pro. They have slowed done my PC to a complete halt. Cannot run Malwarebytes, cannot open add/remove program from control panel and cannot even load a window properly. Please help, anyone.

  29. So I uninstalled all the programs… But! I keep getting that pop-up saying it’s scanning my computer. It’s uninstalled and it’s not showing up in my programs or anything. How do I fully get it off my computer? Please help =/ no where around can tell me how…

  30. Depends on kind of popup. Activate it, and then press ctrl+shift+esc. Task manager will appear. If there is regclean process (sort by alphabet processes), then you failed to uninstall, and you have to reboot, try again or run revouninstaller (Free) or anti-malware programs.
If it is not under the processes, then you got other malware or browser got hijacked. Run Spyhunter, Hitman pro.
