Rebateinformer - How to remove

Rebateinformer

Rebateinformer is an adware program that displays random ads on the computer when you are visiting Amazon, Walmart, eBay and similar websites, mainly shopping related ones. The advertisements recommend various discounts and other offers. If you click on these messages, the program will redirect you to some unknown pages.

Rebateinformer is added to Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers while you are installing some other software, like free video player, PDF creator, etc. Once inside, it modifies your browser settings and changes your homepage to savevalet.com. When you try using a search box on Google, Facebook and other popular pages, you will see a toolbar on your browser that causes various ads and sponsored links related to your search results to be displayed.

Rebateinformer seeks to promote several websites by constantly redirecting users there. It aims to boost traffic of these pages and earn money by making users click on affiliate links. Additionally, the program tracks your browsing habits on the Internet. It records information about the websites you visit and can even access your passwords and other sensitive information. Whats worser, it is distributed with other computer parasites : hijacking toolbars, semi-legitimate registry optimizers and similar.

The best prevention against Rebateinformer is checking the installation steps of any software you are installing. Refuse installing any unknown programs that come bundled with other main one. Remove Rebateinformer if you have already been receiving its ads. Go to Control Panel -> Add and Remove programs list and uninstall it from there. You should also check browser extensions for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome and remove it from there. If you do not see it listed, you should use antimalware tools like SpyHunter and scan your computer with it. If you had redirecting issues, you might need to reset your home page and search engine to the one you used before:

On Internet explorer:

  1. Click arrow on the right of search box;
  2. Do the following: on IE8-9 choose Manage Search providers, on ie7 click change search defaults;
  3. Remove Rebateinformer  from the list.

  2. Type “Keyword.url” in the search box. Right click it & reset it;
  3. Type “browser.search.defaultengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it;
  4. Type “browser.search.selectedengine” in the search box. Right click it & reset it;
  5. Search for ‘browser.newtab.url’. Right-click and reset. This will make sure that the search page won’t launch on each new tab.

On Google Chrome:

  1. Click 3 horizontal lines icon on browser toolbar;
  2. Select Settings;
  3. Select Basics ->Manage Search engines;
  4. Remove unnecessary search engines from list;
  5. Go back to settings. On Startup choose open blank page ( you can remove undesired pages from the set pages link too).

Please note, it is very important to scan your computer with a reliable antimalware program after Rebateinformer is removed as it might be your system got infected with viruses while having it.
