How to remove Pest-Patrol?
What is Pest-Patrol?
Pest-Patrol is a new rogue anti-spyware program, a corrupt spyware remover, which uses illicit tactics to spread itself to gullible users. This parasite (homepage http://pest-patrol.com/) should not be confused with eTrust PestPatrol (homepage http://www.pestpatrol.com/), which is a respectable anti-spyware application, currently known as CA Anti-Spyware.
Pest-Patrol makes it’s way to the system by using trojans, such as Zlob or Vundo. These trojans usually lurk in porn and warez websites and disguise themselves as video codecs. Once inside and active, the trojan floods the user with popups and fake system notifications, saying he’s been infected and must therefore purchase an anti-spyware program to dispose of the threat. The first such program suggested is Pest-Patrol, which is completely and utterly non-functional.
Pest-Patrol’s homepage, Pest-Patrol.com, is surprisingly well-made, albeit still giving away the scammy nature of the program. There is no contact information, which isn’t something any respectable company would allow. The content appears to be copied from a number of other rogues, but not nearly as blatantly as is usually the case. The website was created barely 3 months ago – a lot later than is the case with serious anti-spyware companies.
Pest-Patrol is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block pest-patrol.com using your HOSTS file.

Pest-Patrol is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Pest-Patrol can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Pest-Patrol trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Pest-Patrol offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Pest-Patrol does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.
Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Pest-Patrol, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Pest-Patrol, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.
Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Pest-Patrol, is nearly impossible to remove manually.
