How to remove MalWarrior?

October 5th, 2007

What is MalWarrior?

Is it a worm? Is is a trojan? Or is it something lame?! It’s – MalWarrior, supposedly fighting spyware since October 4, 2007. Yes, MalWarrior (or Mal Warrior 2008) is yet another super-heroe program designed to cleanse your system of evil. Just as any other one of these rogue security programs, this one does exacly the same – it takes your money and goes partying.

It is not certain yet whether Mal Warrior 2008 has an advertising program or not, but it seems like one of the less annoying ones, meaning that it just waits to be downloaded by anyone naive enough to believe that it’s effective. When run, MalWarrior gives you the choice to perform a bogus scan, that produces a bogus report, with lots of bogus threats. Afterwards, when you try to remove the bogus threats, it provides you with a bogus solution, which is to buy the full version (which is bogus). The program’s interface has an "effectiveness" over "pretty-looking" feel, which is a bit of a surprise.

I actually laughed at MalWarrior’s homepage, it has an insane amount of ‘proof’ that it’s best. First of all, the user comments: "The best privacy security kit ever made!" the credibility is astonishing, especially having in mind that this was determined a day after it was released. Next it says how they update their threat database on a dayly basis, and what do you know, the threats of the day include CryptDrive (released September 7). This is funny, since CryptDrive is exactly the same as Mal Warrior 2008. Next we have the awards: 5 of them, but we can assume that there are more (it’s THAT great, after all). The "buy" section is generally uninteresting, maybe except the fact that $39,95 with a 20% discount is $29,95 and the fact that the price doesn’t depend on whether you buy MalWarrior for a 6month period or for life.

The whole page has so many logos, that you may get a seizure if you’re epileptic and if you’re not, you might actually feel dizzy enough to buy it…Oh and some of the content is just classic, I especially enjoyed the Satisfaction Guarantee, a quote: "If you’re unhappy, we’re unhappy… then MalWarrior’s unhappy. And, that just simply will not do." No, it isn’t Barney, the Purple Dinosaur.

Do NOT download this thing and, above all, do NOT buy it. And if you have, at least remove it. Last, but not least, block MalWarrior’s URL in your host files.

MalWarrior is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only MalWarrior can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads MalWarrior trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, MalWarrior offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, MalWarrior does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as MalWarrior, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install MalWarrior, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as MalWarrior, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as MalWarrior?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

I fell for MalWarrior. I purchased the $29.00 six month “protection”. However, when I went to enter my activation code, it just said “Invalid key”. I have phoned their number several times. Was on hold for 13 minutes once, and 41 minutes today. Noone ever answered. Just music playing and “you’re caller #2, etc”. I e-mailed their “customer service” many times. No answer. This, from a service claiming 24/7 customer assistance. Yeah right. I’m furious that they have my money, and I have nothing. What can I do???? STAY FAR AWAY FROM MALWARRIOR!!!! It’s a scam and a load of bull.
