What is Malware Defense?

At first glance Malware Defense (also called as MalwareDefence or Malware Defence) may look like a reputable and legitimate application which shows you security problems you have. This program usually scans the system for viruses and for the removal of all the parasites detected offers to purchase its own “licensed” version. However, the only truth is that all these actions are imitated because Malware Defence is just a classic rogue anti-spyware. This scam reports you invented parasites and seeks only to rip all the trustful PC users off.

Malware Defense is a copy of such malicious anti-spywares as Active Security or AntiMalware. Typically to all its initial programs, MalwareDefence uses backdoor Trojan help which has abilities to install this program without any sign. Being installed into the system, the trialware of this rogue firstly enables all the security programs detected and protects itself from being removed in such a way. Moreover, it trends to change Windows registry and drops its own files which later reports as infections.

With a reason to scare its victims, firstly Malware Defense imitates scanning the PC for cyber threats. This program returns all the earlier created files as infections detected and reports everything in various types of warnings. Victims are completely bombarded by pop-up ads, system tray notifications and security messages that report harmless parasites and expected to become scared. The main aim why this scareware was created is making people believe that they need to buy the “licensed” version of Malware Defense for fixing everything. Please, keep in mind that all the viruses detected in reality do not even exist. PC users are pushed into paying for the services of this rogue anti-spyware, which in reality is useless and even dangerous application. Please don’t fall into this trap and remove Malware Defense immediately after noticing its activity. Use the help of removal guide written below and delete Malware Defense.

Malware Defense is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Malware Defense can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Malware Defense trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Malware Defense offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Malware Defense does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Malware Defense, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Malware Defense, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Malware Defense, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as Malware Defense?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

If you’re going to provide a application to delete the malware, make sure it is already up to date. Rather pointless downloading something on a second computer that can access the net, transferring it over to the infected computer that can’t access the net for the application to have to access the net before it will work.

Adrian : we update custom builds quite often. Differently from other sites, we provide executable removal definitions installed (though update is strongly recommended).

I have got Malware Defense 29.12.2009.
Followed all instructions of manual deleting.
Did not find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\SimpleShlExt in the registry as there was one file only.
All new icons have been removed from desktop.
Still getting Security Center Alert messages every 3-5 minutes and printing interruptions.

Would not be so sure. Heard about cases when people get charged couple times by rogue owners. Also, your CC details might be sold further.
