How to remove iSafeAntiVirus?

December 29th, 2008

What is iSafeAntiVirus?

iSafeAntiVirus (a.k.a iSafe AntiVirus) is a new rogue anti-spyware program, a fake spyware remover, which will try to trick the user into purchasing it’s "licensed version" by intimidating him with fake threats. This parasite typically makes it’s way to the system by using trojans, such as Zlob or Vundo, but can also be manually downloaded and installed.

Once inside and active, iSafeAntiVirus will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him of an infection or multiple infections present on the system. This information may coincidentally be true, but iSafeAntiVirus has neither the ability to detect nor remove infections either way. This parasite will also hijack the browser and provide falsified system scan reports to further disinform the user. Upon convincing the user of the existence of an infection, iSafeAntiVirus will prompt him to purchase the full version, which is no more functional than the trial.

iSafeAntiVirus.com, the home of this parasite, is just like that of any other rogue: it’s full of false claims about spyware and viruses, as well as much undeserved praise for iSafeAntiVirus. The website claims that iSafe Antivirus Inc. was founded in 2000, even though the website was only created on December 21, 2008. Here’s some info on the registrant:

iSafeAntiVirus is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only iSafeAntiVirus can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads iSafeAntiVirus trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, iSafeAntiVirus offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, iSafeAntiVirus does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as iSafeAntiVirus, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install iSafeAntiVirus, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as iSafeAntiVirus, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as iSafeAntiVirus?
