What is IEDefender?

Say "hello" to IEDefender, one of the latest rogue anti-spyware threats on the Net (as of November, 2007). As you can guess from the name, this program should, hypothetically, help you protect your Internet Explorer web browser (and, consequently, your system) from various unwanted software parasites and exploits. However, its name is the only aspect of protection, as the rest is pure scam and infection.

Some users may download IEDefender directly from its homepage, but most people find that this "anti-spyware" tool "magically " appears in their computers, which is in fact a consequence of an infection. That's right, this little spyfighter is an unwanted program (in other words, a parasite) itself.

After you click the new little flashing shield icon on your desktop, you will be offered a "free" spyware scan. While the scan and the program may look legitimate enough to try, the actual level of IEDefender efficiency is nil. All the imaginary threats it detects are either completely illusory, or created by IEDefender itself. After you read the bogus scan report, you will be offered to purchase the "full" version of IEDefender in order to remove the false threats. The only difference between the free and the full versions is that in the "full" version, IEDefender shows an animated removal procedure, which is as ill-effective as the scan. If you get infected by IEDefender, be sure to use our manual removal instructions or download our spyware removal tool if necessary.

Manual IEDefender removal

Important Note: Although it is possible to manually remove IEDefender, such activity can permanently damage your system if any mistakes are made in the process, as advanced spyware parasites are able to automatically repair themselves if not completely removed. Thus, manual spyware removal is recommended for experienced users only, such as IT specialists or highly qualified system administrators. For other users, we recommend using automatic spyware removal applications found on 2-viruses.com.

IEDefender is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only IEDefender can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads IEDefender trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, IEDefender offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, IEDefender not only does not fix the errors, but it takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as IEDefender, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install IEDefender, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as IEDefender, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as IEDefender?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

This is driving me nuts! Normal security won’t remove it and searches come to things that either eventually require you to buy something or are WAY beyond my computer skill. The people running this iedefender site should do life in prison!

What a huge mess. It is a nightmare. How can these people get away with this. This can’t be legal. False advertising, invasion of privacy, damage to property, breach of contract, on and on and on. Who’s collecting the money when someone gets scammed into buying it??
