How to remove Files Secure?

December 25th, 2007

What is Files Secure?

Files Secure (also known as Files Secure 2.2) is yet another rogue anti-spyware program, released just before Christmas, 2007. Even though this program claims to be the best tool for spyware removal, it is actually no more than a scam, not unlike any other rogue anti-spyware scam. This program is most commonly installed via Trojans disguised as video codecs.

When active on your computer, Files Secure 2.2 allows you to scan your system for spyware. This scan produces a falsified report in hopes of scaring you into buying the full version, which is, of course, no more real than the trial.

Files Secure’s homepage is nothing out of the ordinary and provides us with quite a few give-aways that it is, in fact, a scam. First and foremost, there is no contact information – something a legitimate company would never be seen doing. Secondly, the content serves two purposes: intimidating users with spyware and promoting the fake program. Files Secure 2.2 homepage is registered to somewhat with the contact email "iedefender@gmail.com", which, as some of you may know, is also a rogue anti-spyware program.

Do NOT download or buy Files Secure 2.2 and block files-secure.com using your HOSTS file.

Files Secure is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Files Secure can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Files Secure trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Files Secure offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Files Secure does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Files Secure, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Files Secure, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Files Secure, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as Files Secure?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
