How to remove Extra Antivir?

November 28th, 2008

What is Extra Antivir?

Extra Antivir (a.k.a Extra Antivir 2.8) is a new rogue anti-spyware program – one of those nasty little tools that appear to be legitimate spyware removers, but are actually scams. This parasite uses several methods to enter the system, the most common being the use of the Zlob trojan. Extra Antivir uses scare tactics to persuade the user to buy it’s “licensed version”.

Once inside and active, Extra Antivir will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him of threats present on his system. If the user clicks any of the popups, he will be prompted to buy the “licensed version” of Extra Antivir, which, would allegedly dispose of the infections. In reality, however, Extra Antivir is not to be trusted – ir certainly isn’t capable of removing anything, and the infections are most likely non-existent in the first place. Extra Antivir may also use falsified scan reports to get it’s point through.

Extra Antivir is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block it’s homepage using your HOSTS file.

Extra Antivir is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Extra Antivir can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Extra Antivir trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Extra Antivir offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Extra Antivir does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Extra Antivir, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Extra Antivir, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Extra Antivir, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

Anti-Vir installed viruses on my computer. Time Warner Cable quarantined me. Malawarebytes, AVG, and The Cleaner could not get them off after I removed Anti-Vir. My computer’s in the shop for a week and I changed all my bank accounts
