ErrorFix

ErrorFix (a.k.a RegTool) is a registry cleaner and an application meant to protect your privacy. After testing it we have to conclude that while ErrorFix may be helpful in certain situations, overall it is not an application we can recommend. ErrorFix’s judgement, when it comes to labeling risks or things in need of optimization, is a bit off at best.

Most of what ErrorFix marks as “privacy risks” are chat logs and MS Word edit histories. All of these are presented without an explanation of any sort and without any possibility to distinguish what’s what, at least none too obvious. While both chat logs and recent file history may be a potential privacy risk, I find it a lot smarter to take care of both of these things manually, so as to avoid having important data deleted without my knowledge.

You will notice that ErrorFix will mark registry entries of quite a few applications as unnecessary: an example would be the startup entries of Adobe and Java updater and Skype launcher. These are removed claiming that they make the system work slower, and of course it would, just I’m not sure whether that’s the way it should be done. And let’s not forget that unpatched software is a major issue when fighting the same privacy problems ErrorFix claims it fights.

If it’s any indication, many revered security programs, such as Symantec software, NOD32, Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, and others block ErrorFix. This might not be the best approach, but ErrorFix is not recommended nevertheless.
