How to remove ErrorDigger?

What is ErrorDigger?

ErrorDigger is another rogue security program that came out November 22, 2007. This one masquerades as the ultimate system optimizer: it scans hard-drives for errors, frees disk space and even repairs corrupted files. Of course, in reality it takes your money and does none of the above.

ErrorDigger can only make its way to users’ PCs if they manually download and install it, in other words, only if you’re extremely gullible, will you lose your money to this scam. What it does is it allows you to perform a scan, then presents a report that has a huge number of errors, that don’t actually exist. Scared yet? If so, you will pay money for the full version, which is needed to remove these errors and get nothing out of it, except perhaps the moral joy of donating money to scammers.

The homepage of ErrorDigger is your typical rogue security program website with loads of graphical content and an equal lack of useful information. What little information there is suggests that the makers of this program are not native english speakers and don’t have the money to hire someone who is. 3 “download” buttons on the front page alone, news, written specifically for the website and providing users with indirect suggestions that they should indeed buy ErrorDigger, happy user testimonials, etc. Everything combined makes this website quite possibly the hardest to believe in at least a few months.

Do not download or buy ErrorDigger. If you have it – remove it and block errordigger.com in your host files.

After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only ErrorDigger can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads ErrorDigger trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, ErrorDigger offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, ErrorDigger does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as ErrorDigger, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install ErrorDigger, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as ErrorDigger, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as ErrorDigger?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
