Error Fix & AVG antivirus downloads are awlful! I don’t know how I got Viruses on my pc. You can’t uninstall either one of them. SO DON’T USE THEIR FREE VERSIONS……….YOU WILL GET a VIRUS for sure.

Exact same thing that John Crutchley mentioned above happened to me – a 3-year license was purchased last May, and started messing up about a year later. I pride myself in not falling for scams/malware/spyware, but it appears that I might have been “taken” on this one. I’ll be removing (or atempting to remove) ErrorFix ASAP.

I purchased a 3 year licence for Error Fix in May 2009. In May this year (2010) I started to get messages that my licence has expired and inviting me to renew. I have had no response whatsoever to repeated complaints and am now about to give up on the product and the company

the viruses/malware that have tons of pop ups/say false errors or viruses are infecting you/ and disable anything you can do…i hav eno idea how many of them. but most of them are the same set up.

i agree but it has been hinted at.

i have acdently installed many of these type of viruses or virus openers.

i searched online through other laptops and found a solution.

you restart your computer
press f8 at start up
open up with safemode with networking
downlaod rkill from a website (most of the fake malware disable your internet so you cant get out, but thats an easy fix. go to tools. internet options. lan settings. and change an option about lan in there…im sure someone else can exsplain it in more detail.)
run rkill (in safe mode or full boot mode…its easyer to do in safe mode because you dont have to run rkill instnatly you can run at your own pace.)
after running r kill it will kill the virus BUT!!!! DO NOT restart your pc. other wise you will have to re run rkill.
after running rkill use malwarebytes as this malware hunter will get rid of it (id know from personal useage…too many times….)
and any other virus get rid of’er because some viruses are easy to find in safe mode instead of full runing mode. (just in case you ahve more then one virus)
and then run any other virus protection you have because more the merrier! its best to have multipul antivirus cus some cant find that some others can…and vise versa.

How do I uninstall Error Fix – I have tried my control panel removal, cc cleaner removal and nothing is working – please help. Also how is AVAST any good? Ever since I got my computer back from ‘being fixed’ the guy installed this and now I can’t get flash player to work.

I had the trial version which told me my compute had problems! After many months and with reservations I downloaded error fix but not antimaladware as I had checked that on the ‘net and found that it was the malicious adware. My computer now has uploaded some of the recent versions of Vista which I couldn’t do before, but at the cost of impossibly slow performance and the inability to access many websites including airlines and the McAfee virtual technician etc! I can’t get it off my computer fast enough!

I ran across errorfix by looking for a svchost fix. I tried the free trial scan and it found about 4000 errors on my computer. NOT! I was thinking about buyint it and then I clicked the EULA and Privacy Statement at the bottom of the page. Both came up empty. The webpage cannot be found. GOTTA BE A SCAM!!!!!

Error Fix does appear to be a scam. My friend’s laptop was unusable due to the numerous popups warning of errors. Task manager, regedit, folder view in Windows Explorer were all disabled, to make removing this menace difficult. I found that running in safe mode with networking was adequate for the purpose of removing Error Fix. From safe mode with networking, I was able to install, run and update Malwarebytes, which clearly identified Error Fix as malware and allowed me to remove it. If your computer is slow, it is not from so called registry errors. It is likely due to a bunch of other malware on your machine, too many running programs in your startup, driver issues, disk fragmentation, etc. If your computer is slow from all the crap running on it, why would installing more crap on your computer be a good thing? Less is more. Know what each and every process that is running on your machine is and you will be better off.

I bought Error Fix about a month ago and have just noticed I’ve been charged twice. I’m annoyed but now I just want to get rid of it. How can I do this, and will it cause me problems if I don’t?

I called my credit card company (which anyone can do) and they gave me a phone number of the banking institution who requested my money from the credit card company. They gave me (208) 345-4245 the banking institution’s name is ClickBank.com. I called and gave them my last name and zip code by request and told a credit would be issue. Shortly thereafter I received an email confirmation from clickbank that they were issueing a credit.

Error Fix installs SmitFreud-C and opens the door for Trojans.
It also comes with Couponbars and it opens the door for FAKE_Alert.

Also be warned for AdwareAlert. Same bogus.

All these products appear to be from C-Netmedia.

I am in the proces of getting my money back. I am not to hopefull.

First clue : Try to look for Error Fix at tucows website. You will find error fixer (with rating 3), but not error fix. At least I could not.
Gear downloads : no user rating. Someone had to download this software, hadnt it?
McAffee banner is paid one (depends on visitor count, costs around 1000 USD/month i believe). They scan daily for security vulnerabilities.
Also, here a simple test : http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/92e1914cbdfa30113a7638abf220fb7f13a734492bbe24b59256199d227e7ea6-1249248418 for error-fix trial installer. Sophos, Norman report the file as trojan, Panda calls the file suspicious. You can re upload the files itself.
Typically, popups are shown when program is pushed with by affiliates using trojans. Most security programs have strict policy against this, except rogues.
I would not recommend this program and would go with a more reputable alternative.

McAffee and Norton both see Error-fix as legitimate and so does Tucows (in fact it gives it a high rating). I do not have constant pop ups, errors or a slow system. How do we know who is rogue and who is not?

Not really. Spybots database is updated much slower than many other/commercial removers last time I checked. Also, I strongly disagree with spybots policy of marking each advertisment driven program or website as spyware/adware. It is good choice for lessening heavy infections or removing older parasites, though.
Malwarebytes is a good tool, though its free version does not have real time protection. This has quite a negative mpact on the heavier infected machines, as many advanced removers actively fight against spyware removers nowadays. Also, it has very bad habit of writing generic names for parasites, so users would not be able to read specific instructions for removing particular parasite on the web. I can recommend it as secondary remover though, 2 removers are better than one.

Spybot Search & Destroy (Free)

Both are safe and successfully remove all adware/spyware problems. And when I say “all” I mean “almost all” because there isn’t a piece of software available that knows everything… The two, together, will get the job done. Free.

Spyware Doctor Scanner is free and it is a reputable product, the remover part is reasonably priced. You can even google for Spyware Doctor. We also recommend other products that are as good (or almost as good). Some of them are completely free, others are reasonably priced. The difference from Rogue products are a) they provide accurate information (no false positives) b) they have good detection ratio c) they have reputation to protect.
If you do not believe products, you can use our free removal instructions as well. Do you see working removal instructions at any rogue sites ?
