How to remove DrProtection?

What is DrProtection?

DrProtection was unleashed upon the world November 29, 2007. It is yet another rogue security program much like any other: it masquerades as a cutting edge tool that will save your PC from all of the world’s troubles, when in fact it doesn’t really work at all. It would all be fine, if the program were free, but that is not the case.

DrProtection makes its way to your system by way of manual download and installation, meaning that is not actually an infection but rather a simple scam. When active, the program allows you to make a scan of the system, which produces a falsified report with many non-existent threats. These threats, the program tells you, can only be removed with the full version, which costs money. The makers of DrProtection bid their money on your fear of security threats.

DrProtection has as hideous a homepage as is possible even by rogue security website standarts. A lot of the content was obviously copied from DrAntiSpy’s (which is the same kind of scam as DrProtection) homepage with quotes such as "What is Dr.Protection? Dr.Antispy an award-winning spyware removal utility…". Extremely professional. So is having 2 buttons – "download" and "free scan" – right next to each other, both of which lead to the same page (the same is also true about "help" and "contacts"). Also, hardly can DrProtection be award-winning – it came out yesterday. There are obviously no contacts given as always.

DrProtection is a scam and deserves to be treated as such : do not download or buy it. If you have it – remove it and block dr-protection.com in your host files.

Manual DrProtection removal

Important Note: Although it is possible to manually remove DrProtection, such activity can permanently damage your system if any mistakes are made in the process, as advanced spyware parasites are able to automatically repair themselves if not completely removed. Thus, manual spyware removal is recommended for experienced users only, such as IT specialists or highly qualified system administrators. For other users, we recommend using automatic spyware removal applications found on 2-viruses.com.

DrProtection is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only DrProtection can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads DrProtection trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, DrProtection offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, DrProtection does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as DrProtection, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install DrProtection, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as DrProtection, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as DrProtection?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
