About Dollar Keeper

It works as a browser add-on that can be added to all most popular web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. It’s described as an application that should save both time and money of users while they are shopping online by providing them with various commercial links, coupons and deals. However this is not true and you should not trust this application.

Those offers are displayed in an annoying manner of web advertisements. Those ads can come in various forms, such as pop-up, pop-under, in-text, banner or contextual advertisements. A new tab or window can be opened as well. Usually the ads appear on e-commerce websites, such as eBay or Amazon and offer you to purchase some particular goods at a better price rate. Don’t fall for that – in most cases they are fake, it’s just a trick to win your attention and make you click on one of those ads. If you do so, you will be immediately redirected to other websites that may be owned by cyber criminals. This way your computer can get infected with other malware or if you attempt to purchase something there you can get scammed.

The application is like an advertising network for cyber criminals – they are banned from all legitimate advertising platforms therefore they use adware like this to drive some traffic to their websites. If you have Dollar Keeper installed on your computer, cyber criminals can reach you right on your web browser on a daily basis. That’s the main reason why you should get rid of this malicious application as soon as possible.

Another unwanted attribute of Dollar Keeper is data collection. It uses cookies without your permission and collects various information about your web browsing habits, such as your browsing history, most visited sites, search queries or IP and email addresses. This information is used for marketing. The third parties adjust their advertisements according to the collected data to make them even more relevant and attractive specifically to you, so chances that you will click on one of those ads rise. And that’s the main goal of Dollar Keeper because its creators get paid for every click you make.

Distribution Methods of Dollar Keeper

You can get infected with this malware by downloading free software from unreliable websites. I.e. when you download and install some freebie from a website with a questionable reputation, there is a chance that Dollar Keeper will be installed alongside without you even being warned about that.

That’s why you should be very careful installing freebies. Don’t skip any steps of the installation (do not just click ‘next’ and ‘agree’ buttons all the time before reading all the information first) and always opt for a custom or advanced install mode if possible. This way you will be able to see all available options and make changes. If you notice that some additional software is being installed alongside and you are not aware of it, don’t allow this installation to be completed because it can possibly be Dollar Keeper or any other malware that you don’t want to see on your computer.
