Hey guys. StopZilla is OK. They took a custom system scan from me. They did a SW update to their product and have ended Digital Protection on my system for days now. It took them about three days but thats a hell of a lot faster than the Gov so….

i had the problem of the warnings coming back once i turned on the computer but i have found that there are 2 start up programs that you have to uncheck using msconfig

after i did that there is no more problem

Lance : The problems is reinfections. That means stopzilla did not clean everything, so you should a) get a good antivirus AND good anti-spyware after reimage b) get firewall and check if there are infected PC’s in your network.

I take that back. STOPzilla did not prevent the eventual return of digital protection. Im done wasting more time, it is OS re-imaging for me.

I stpent a few hours doing similar steps to what people have desrcibed above. This was one mean mother and nothing was working. I was about to re-install XP but spent $9.95 on STOPzilla. The first full scan detected and removed it. It was back after reboot. The next full scan again detected and removed it, I then purged it from quarantine before reboot, and digital protect was finally vanquished. I would like to meet the SOBs, somewhere in eastern Europe I believe they reside, that wasted my time and money on this crap.

Cassie : check proxy server settings. Maybe your traffic is redirected through some malicious web proxy server. That happens a lot.

Sorry, one more thing! I tell a lie, there has been one problem: Google Chrome simply refuses to work since removing Digital Protection from my laptop. It just lags and hangs, sometimes eventually telling me that there is no response. This is rather annoying as I really like Chrome as a browser.

No but seriously, I downloaded Malwarebytes before I experianced problems with digital protection, and while it was popping up and being all annoying Windows Defender was the ONLY programme on my laptop (I have a couple of protections, none very good though lol) the only one to tell me of a threat, was able to scan while I was being attacked by digital protection and then removed it from my laptop. Is this good luck, or is the virus just laying in wait?

Lee : you are incorrect.
First, not all PC’s are made by Dell and have Dell restore center installed. This is specific to Dell’s only.
Also, MSE detection ratio is not as good as Avira or AVAST (who have free versions as well). There are independent antivirus tests that confirm that. I haven’t seen rootkit detection module there as well. Microsoft is not investing enough into their antivirus. Also. MSE is not available in all the countries.
If you need antivirus go for NOD32/Kaspersky (or AVAST/Avira if you are satisfied with “good enough” protection and no liability from antivirus makers). You can live with MSE if you have 64-bit operating system which is not attacked by trojans that much (yet). And you will need anti-spyware/malware defense as well, as antiviruses focus on broader spectrum of parasites, and miss malware, rogues and such.

Dell Factory Image Restore info can be found in your computer manual. You will also need the CD’s that came with your computer. ALSO DOWNLOAD THE FREE MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS PEOPLE!!! It’s on mircosoft.com. All the other ones are junk. Just update that one periodically and you’ll be fine. It’s free and you pay for nothing. Don’t pay for protection when you can get the best stuff for free.

One way to rid yourself of the “digital protection” is to do a Dell Factory Image Restore. This will make computer like it was when you bought it… that means all your stuff will be deleted. So save what you can on a usb, but be careful not to save the virus!

Just use rkill.com ( the program ) that will stop the process’s of the malware so in turn u can install progs again and terminate process’s again.

I am battling the anti-malware doctor, the pc protection, and the xp anti-malware at the moment. No idea where my client picked these nasties up but seems like I am winning so far…….
