How to remove DeusCleaner?

What is DeusCleaner?

DeusCleaner is the rogue security program of November 22, 2007. It is supposedly a tool that removes Internet records, prevents spying, cleans the hard drive so it doesn’t contain unnecessary files, so, generally it’s a program against privacy intrusions. In reality it is no different from any other scam of the same nature.

DeusCleaner makes way to users’ systems by manual download and installation as opposed to infection via trojans. Once active, it allows the user to make a scan (or something resembling one) and falsifies the report so it contains a great number of potential privacy risks. Then it assumes the user is intimidated enough and tries to make him pay for the full version in order to dispose of the threats. Those gullible enough to believe in DeusCleaner’s effectiveness will end up losing money on a bogus program.

The homepage of DeusCleaner is surprisingly legitimate-looking and doesn’t contain many give-aways of the true nature of the program, aside from, maybe some that don’t necessarily spring to mind as alarming, such as the fact that there are 3 "download" buttons on the front page alone, probably to "get under users’ skin". One could also notice the general tone of speech, which is essentially not required to market a legitimate product. Of course, there is the omnipresent lack of contact information, which is always a great way of spotting a scam.

Don’t download or buy this program. If you have already, delete it and block deuscleaner.com in your host files.

DeusCleaner is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only DeusCleaner can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads DeusCleaner trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, DeusCleaner offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, DeusCleaner does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as DeusCleaner, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install DeusCleaner, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as DeusCleaner, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as DeusCleaner?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
