How to remove Defence center?

September 5th, 2010

What is Defence center?

Defence center is a Rogue antivirus that appeared after summer 2010 together with Windows Defence. This rogue might be spread by trojans or drive-by downloads, as users reported starting seeing them without downloading anything. Typically, trojans hide in fake video codecs, legitimate software updates served on infected domains, or infected documents. This allows tricking users into installing software on their PCs.

Defence center website does not provide any trials for download, just overpriced versions of full product, which needs to be purchased prior downloading. The website contains unjustified claims: “award winning” (any awards for software that was never seen before 2010? ), best protection, market leaders… It claims that defence center removes viruses in one page, and in next it tells that it will not remove viruses, but only spyware and malware and so on. I would not trust such website.

After Defence center becomes active, it will start showing face security center icon in the taskbar. You will get alerts and warnings about serious problems : hacker attacks, viruses, infected programs, stolen information. Then you are informed that you will have to download and buy full version of this scam to get rid of all these infections. Do not listen to Defence centers messages! It is a phishing scam, and your credit card details will get used for further malware development and scammer holidays.

To get rid of Defence Center you should reboot into safe mode with networking. Disable proxy server, and start msconfig. Disable all the mentioned Defence Center executables, launching from C:\Documents and settings or C:\Users folder. Do a full scan with Spyware Doctor or other malware remover like Malwarebytes.
We recommend having full version of good malware remover like Spyware Doctor to reduce chances of similar infections.

Manual Defence center removal

Important Note: Although it is possible to manually remove Defence center, such activity can permanently damage your system if any mistakes are made in the process, as advanced spyware parasites are able to automatically repair themselves if not completely removed. Thus, manual spyware removal is recommended for experienced users only, such as IT specialists or highly qualified system administrators. For other users, we recommend using Spyware Doctor or other malware and spyware removal applications found on 2-viruses.com.

It is impossible to list all file names and locations of modern parasites. You can identify remaining parasites, other Defence center infected files and get help in Defence center removal by using free Spyware Doctor scanner. It comes with free real-time protection module that helps preventing Defence center and similar threats.

Defence center is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Defence center can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Defence center trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Defence center offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Defence center does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Defence center, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Defence center, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Defence center, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as Defence center?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Sunday September 5th, you or your people hijacked Defence-Center.com site. I beg to draw attention to the fact that defenCe center does not have any relationship to the defenSe center or any others which you’re hunting. The article you posted without examining the issue was found on your site.

Robert Doe : it would help if you a) would use real email address in the communication b) would disclose ownership of the domain and creators of the tool. c) Would not use misleading statements on the website (like claiming it removes 100% of spyware/viruses – no tool can guarantee that, especially a tool that is not antivirus (like it is disclosed in another page) ) d) would not be blocked by antiviruses like ESET smart security. . Once it is cleared, we will retest the tool and possibly remove the page.
We got complaints about your tool installed without user consent on PC’s

You cannot receive any complaints. We have 300 customers only.
It is not a product, this is a service. We’re working much quicker then others.
Why you’re spreading a lie through the internet and demand some proofs?
    Can you prove your information?

You earn on advertising. Do it honestly. Your hackers broke into our system and stole semi-working part that does not work without registration.
We demand the denial! You started all this problems! You and your attackers!

Fix the problems on website that are caused by hackers.
So the claim about 700 000 or more customers, that is/was displayed on website was a hacker doing too ? :) Stay consistent in your claims, and note, that your email address you complain is not real.

We do not attack any server or anyone. If we would be found distributing malware due to infection or hacker attack, it would be our fault, or our system administrator fault. We take server security seriously. Also, we make backups and we can restore from them at any point.
Any infected or hacked website is dangerous while not fixed, so message is valid.
