About City Web

It works as a browser add-on that can be added to all most popular web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. Once installed, it will display various advertisements on all of your web browsers, such as pop-up, pop-under, in-text, contextual or banner advertisements. A new tab or even window can be opened on your web browser as well. Those ads appear completely randomly, so it’s really disturbing.

Even though they look really appealing, you should not click on any of them. Usually they are fake – it’s just a trick to win your attention and make you click on one of those advertisements. If you do so, you will be immediately redirected to other websites that may be owned by cyber criminals. This is very dangerous, because your computer can get infected or in case you attempt to purchase something there you can even get scammed and lose your hard earned money.

City Web is sponsored by displaying various advertisements to users. It’s not a secret that those sponsors often happen to be various cyber criminals, such as hackers and scammers. So if you have this adware installed on your computer, cyber criminals can reach you right on your web browser on a daily basis.

Another unwanted attribute of City Web is data collection. Once installed this application will collect various information about you, such as your browsing history, search queries, top visited sites or even your IP and email addresses. The third parties adjust those advertisements according to the collected data and make them even more relevant and attractive to users this way, so chances that they will click on one of them rise. And that’s the main goal of City Web, because its creators get paid for every click you make.

Distribution Methods of City Web

City Web usually travels bundled with other free software that can be downloaded from the Internet for free. I.e. when you download and install some media player or PDF generator from a website that looks unreliable, there is a chance that City Web will be installed alongside without any explanation. That means you need to pay a close attention to the installation process of freebies. Don’t skip any steps and always opt out for a custom or advanced install mode if possible. This will allow you to see all available options and make changes. Look for various check boxes that can be already checked for you and don’t rush because some of the most important information can be displayed in a very tiny font and you don’t want to overlook that. In case it is too late and your computer is already infected, don’t waste your time and eliminate malware as soon as possible.
