How to remove AV Antivirus Suite?

June 29th, 2010

What is AV Antivirus Suite?

AV Antivirus Suite is nothing else but a rogue anti-spyware which will annoy you to death because of its continuous pop up ads asking to buy its fake license. This malware just like AV Security Suite or Antivirus Soft will also apply browser hijacking techniques with a reason to interrupt into a normal browsing and then redirect victims to its fake websites also promoting AV Antivirus Suite.

Be aware of taking various “surveys”, “quizzes” and “tests” online or visiting insecurely looking websites if you want to avoid AVAntivirusSuite on your PC. Many of them are known to distribute Trojans that additionally let such malwares inside through security vulnerabilities found and finally take over the whole computer. It means that just after getting on board, AV Anti-virus Suite will start popping up every few seconds. This scam will announce that computer is dangerously infected and that only its licensed version is capable to fix all these problems found. Moreover, AV Anti-virus Suite is known to imitate system scan and also block such tools as Task Manager or even the access to the Internet. All this makes AV Anti-virus Suite hard to remove.

Because it’s a clear rogue anti-spyware, you must remove AV Antivirus Suite immediately after noticing it existing on your PC.  Remember that processes of this malware often end with “tssd.exe”, so just after you launch Safe Mode with Networking and check your LAN settings, look for them.

Here is the step-by-step guide:

1. Restart your computer. As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, tap “F8” key constantly. Use the arrow keys to highlight the “Safe Mode with Networking” option as shown in the image below, and then press ENTER.

2. Open Internet Explorer. Click on the Tools menu and then select Internet Options.

3. In the the Internet Options window click on the Connections tab. Then click on the LAN settings button.

4. Now you will see Local Area Network (LAN) settings window. Uncheck the checkbox labeled Use a proxy server for your LAN under the Proxy Server section and press OK.

5. Start task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) enter processes tab, sort processes by name. For stopping AV Antivirus Suite, look for processes that either end in tssd.exe, or whose name is complete gibberish from random characters. write down their names, stop them.

6. Start -> Run -> msconfig and look for the same processes in startup list. Unmark AV Antivirus Suite processes from starting.

7. You can try to remove these files (if they are within your user directory, you are pretty much safe to remove them), but it is more advisable to scan with reputable scanner and remover to be 100% sure. If these processes launched from system directory, it is not advisable to remove files by yourself. I recommend Spyware Doctor, however other reputable malware removers like malwarebytes might as well do the job.

8. If you removed manually, I still recommend performing full system scan with both Antivirus program and Spyware doctor to remove various downloaders and AV Antivirus Suite leftovers from the system.

If AV Antivirus Suite blocks downloaded removal program, try renaming executable to iexplore.exe or launch it using task manager: Start task manager, choose New Task from menu and enter full path to executable

AV Antivirus Suite is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only AV Antivirus Suite can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads AV Antivirus Suite trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, AV Antivirus Suite offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, AV Antivirus Suite does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as AV Antivirus Suite, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install AV Antivirus Suite, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as AV Antivirus Suite, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as AV Antivirus Suite?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

AV antivirus loaded and immediately disabled the “exe” files for my registry cleaner. My virus program,I have spyware doctor on the system and it is disabled by the av antivirus. I also have a full version on a flash drive. It has disabledthe cd drive and disk drive has been disabled. You have to run the manual method first and if your “exe” will run thenyou can try to use a program to clean the remnants from it.

It shut down Task Manager, disabled my firewall and anti-spyware software. I had to turn off the computer manually, start in Safe Mode, and then restore the system to the last previous safe point. That worked for me.
