Ken Mol, Kieran : The problem is that you use free programs that do not have real time protection or system restore. I would recommend getting at least one with real time protection instead. Saves time.

This is the second time in 2 days that this rotter has infected my laptop. Most people would have learnt the first time! From reading feedback on similar websites it seems way too risky to edit the registry. What I've found that works is simply to restore your system the most recent point before Mr Antivirus Vista 2010 showed up. It is recommended that you restore from Safe Mode but restoring from Normal Mode has worked fine for me - just remember to end the process av.exe first in Task Manager.

The system restore is found in: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

For my mind its the safest, easiest and cheapest way to combat this problem, but do note that you will lose any programs that have been installed after your chosem system restore date. You will want to back these up before proceeding! Your documents and music etc should not be affected.

Good luck all!

this 2010 was a tough one. I was determined to get rid of it using free programs. Malwarebytes was my first choice but 2010 would not let me install the program. Smart. I looked for a solution to that problem online. Older post said rename the the bam File (that's the start up file for malwarebytes) that did not work. So needed another FREE program 2010 did not know abou. tUsed " a-squared free" malware removal program.
It loaded and updated so I ran it . It found lots of problems on the PC. It found the 2010 malware and labeled as a high threat. It got rid of the 2010 malware. Great.

but after reboot the laptop no longer open any EXE files. That means no program would open since every program starts with a EXE file to open. Made the laptop useless. Now I have no idea if a-square free messed with my registry or if 2010 took a finale parting shot and disabled open EXE files.
There are lots of payed programs saying they can fix this. But I'm cheap so I decided to restore the laptop to the latest know working condition in the restore menu.
That worked and the 2010 did not come back with the restore.
problem solved and NO money changed hands.

Malwarebytes loaded after that and would recommend to any one to load the free version and run it often.

posting the fix that worked for me on many 2010 malware sites. May not work for you but its how I got rid of it.

Just a note, if you're going to try to remove this manually and use the above references, don't just delete the keys out of the reg as they suggest as it will destroy your associations. I'm going to try to follow their steps and remove only the av.exe references.
