What is Antivirus 2008?

Antivirus 2008 (a.k.a VistaAntivirus2008, SystemAntivirus 2008) is a corrupt anti-virus tool that harasses users with its scare tactics in order to earn a $50. Antivirus 2008 (also known as Antivirus2008) is distributed through malicious websites that sell other fake anti spyware tools as well.

Once inside and active, Antivirus 2008 will bombard the user with an endless flood of popups and fake system notifications, supposedly informing him of an infection, which is most likely non-existent. These threats are supposed to lead the user into a position where he has the necessity to buy an anti-spyware program. Of course, Antivirus 2008 is up and ready for the task. The task of ripping you off, that is.

Do not, ever, download or buy Antivirus 2008. To ensure your security and avoid accidental infection, you should block antivirus2008.com using your HOSTS file.

Update: Due to couple versions of parasite "coctails" used to infect your PC, some users report better results with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

Manual Antivirus 2008 removal

Important Note: Although it is possible to manually remove Antivirus 2008, such activity can permanently damage your system if any mistakes are made in the process, as advanced spyware parasites are able to automatically repair themselves if not completely removed. Thus, manual spyware removal is recommended for experienced users only, such as IT specialists or highly qualified system administrators. For other users, we recommend using automatic spyware removal applications found on 2-viruses.com.

Antivirus 2008 is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Antivirus 2008 can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads Antivirus 2008 trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, Antivirus 2008 offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, Antivirus 2008 not only does not fix the errors, but it takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Antivirus 2008, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install Antivirus 2008, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as Antivirus 2008, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as Antivirus 2008?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.

Help!! My computer has been infected with the “antivirus 2008″ virus. It has taken over my compter completely!!! I can’t get into anything or send anything without a page popping up saying” “Insecure Internet Activity Threat of Virus Alert” or a small box at the bottom of page saying” Warning Antivirus 2008 Alert” or another pop up showing that I have 43 infections!!!It then asks to “purchase their service” or “remind me later” which after a few minutes, pops up again and again!!! I tried calling their “bogus” customer support number (which claims to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year) which I got a message stating the wait time, and another message saying to leave a message and yet another message saying they couldn’t accept any messages because their mailbox was full and then it would disconnect!!!!! I am already subscribed to spyware doctor. Could someone pleeeeeze tell me how to get rid of this “annoying, invading, infectious” virus?!!!! I wasn’t able to download Malwarebytes installer b/c Antivirus 2008 kept redirecting by browser to another site. So I downloaded it from another computer and copied it to a disk then to my desktop. The installer wouldn’t run until I changed the name of the exe file, and once I did it opened and started running but it could not complete the installation… it just seemed to get stuck near the end. It also seems to be preventing me from starting in Safe Mode… tricky bugger!! Any suggestions for how I can get this remover installed??
