How to remove AntiSpyPro?

December 6th, 2007

What is AntiSpyPro?

AntispyPro is the rogue anti-spyware program of December 5, 2007. As the name suggests, this program removes spyware and is "pro" at it. The reality is, of course, a lot sadder than the illusion: the only thing AntiSpyPro is Pro at, is scamming money out of gullible consumers.

AntiSpyPro makes its way to your system via Trojans such as Zlob, or it can be downloaded and installed manually. When active, AntiSpyPro allows you to perform a scan, which presents you with a report as intimidating as Darth Vader on an off-day. All the threats listed in the report can supposedly only be disposed of using the full version, which is the effective equivalent of something highly ineffective. If you buy it, well, you asked for it.

While probably not the poorest homepage I’ve seen for a rogue security program, it still provides us with a few good laughs and, more importantly, give-aways of the true nature of AntiSpyPro. This is probably the first program that has its own diary and, not unlike Bridget Jones’ diary, this one’s also fictional, but still serves the purpose : "10 October 2007 – Hackers attacked our forum. Do not worry, soon forum will be available," yes, you guessed it, there was never a forum to begin with, and if there was, well, nice work not having it up in 2 months time. The homepage seems to be somewhat similar to engrish.com: "No one in safe!" There are so many questions that rise from this, that I’m not even going to begin analyzing.

AntiSpyPro is a scam and should be treated as such: do not download or buy it, if you have it – remove it and block antispy-pro.com in your host files.

AntiSpyPro is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only AntiSpyPro can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads AntiSpyPro trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, AntiSpyPro offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, AntiSpyPro does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as AntiSpyPro, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install AntiSpyPro, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as AntiSpyPro, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as AntiSpyPro?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
