How to remove AntiSpyGuard?

What is AntiSpyGuard?

October 31, 2007, Halloween, has seen the newest rogue anti-spyware scam yet – AntiSpyGuard. Its creators have surpassed all of the users’ expectations by actually being able to give the program a name that has a combination of 3 most overused words in the Spy-fighting (or scamming) industry and still managed to be the first ones to use it. This program claims to be able to combat such "latest" threats as Netsky, MyDoom and Mytob, the newest of which is more than 2 years old. AntiSpyGuard continues to misunderstand the meaning of "new" even further by having functions exactly like any other rogue security program.

Downloaded and installed manually by anyone oblivious enough to do so, AntiSpyGuard will allow users to perform a system scan, which will flag files the program itself created as spyware/viruses/worms. The user is then supposed to be intimidated enough to buy the full version, which is what is supposedly needed to get rid of the bogus threats. News Flash: the full version is full of… anything, except the feature of being effective.

AntiSpyGuard has a particularly attractive and legitimate-looking home page, which can also be noted for the amount of lies. Apart from fighting the latest threats mentioned above, the program has been downloaded over 4 million times and gets downloaded 20,000 times more with every coming week. When you try figuring out what it means, you are left with the explanation that today it has been downloaded 4million times and will suffer a 99.9% drop in sales the next week, with only around 3,000 a day, yet for some reason they feel optimistic. Furthermore, AntiSpyGuard has been given virtually every award possible by pretty much every institution that gives awards to security programs and all of it happened today. The program is made for simple users and not professionals, quite simply because professionals aren’t naive enough to fall for it. Ironically, to download the trial version, you have to Push The Red Button – the only fair representation of the program’s nature found in the whole website, because a $49.95 price tag certainly isn’t. Needless to say, there is no contact information, but you can fill out a form, which will arguably not reach its goal or, perhaps, amuse the creators in the malevolent kind of way.

Do NOT download or buy this fake tool. If you have it – remove it and block antispyguard.com in your host files.

AntiSpyGuard is classified as Rogue Anti-Spyware. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only AntiSpyGuard can help you to remove it after you download the trial version. As soon as the victim downloads AntiSpyGuard trial version, it pretends to scan your computer and shows a grossly exaggerated amount of non-existent errors. Then, AntiSpyGuard offers to buy the full version to fix these false errors. If the user agrees, AntiSpyGuard does not only fix the errors, but it also takes the user’s money and may even install additional spyware into the victim’s computer.

Some Rogue Anti-Spyware, such as AntiSpyGuard, may offer users to buy it after the victim clicks on a banner or a pop-up while surfing the internet. Usually, a Trojan is installed to a victim’s computer after clicking on the advertisement. It then proceeds to download or even install AntiSpyGuard, which is another way for Rogue Anti-Spyware to spread itself.

Most of rogue Anti-Spyware, such as AntiSpyGuard, is nearly impossible to remove manually.

How to tell if your PC has been infected by a Rogue Anti-Spyware such as AntiSpyGuard?

Numerous undesirable and annoying pop-ups: A typical Rogue Anti-Spyware parasite keeps track of your internet browsing habits, sending your browsing history data to remote servers, owned by third party companies that use this information to advertise their products via numerous pop-ups, toolbars, hijacked homepages and spam letters. All these undesirable advertising methods are used on the victims of Rogue Anti-Spyware.
Changed or new icons: Sometimes, Rogue Anti-Spyware installs unwanted software to a victim’s PC without user’s knowledge and consent. This may lead to slower PC performance and stability, as well as more unwanted programs you can't remove.
