Adware virus Alpha Shopper

This adware goes by two different names – it can be called either Alpha Shopper or Alpha Shoppers. Either way, you should know that it is the exact same virus and you should follow the same instructions in order to get rid of it.

Even though it’s presented as a useful application that will save both your time and money when shopping online by providing you with various coupons, deals, and commercial offers, this is not true. The problem is that all those advertisements displayed by Alpha Shopper come in an annoying form of web advertisements, such as pop-up, pop-under, in-text, banner or contextual advertisements. Mostly, it’s just the same ads that you already see every day online, just more dangerous.

Alpha Shopper can be described as an advertising network for cyber criminals – since they are banned from all legitimate advertising networks like Google or Facebook ads, they use adware like this to promote their websites and direct some traffic to them. This means that if you keep Alpha Shopper installed on your computer, various cyber criminals will be able to reach you right on your web browser on a daily basis and that’s very dangerous.

This leasves no doubt that Alpha Shopper’s ads are not only disturbing, but malicious as well, so we don’t recommend to click on any of them. If you do so, you will be immediately redirected to other websites that might be owned by various cyber criminals, such as hackers or scammers. This way your computer can get infected with other viruses or if you attempt to purchase something there you can even get scammed and lose your hard-earned money.

Luckily, this infection is not very different from other adware viruses. We have seen malware like Awesome Dealers or OfferssDirect – they all operate in a similar manner, and anti-malware tools are capable of solving such problems.

Update: it seems like there is a new adware infection with a similar name – Alphashoppers.co. However, it is not the same virus and you should be aware of that. Alphashoppers.co first appeared in September 2017 and the volume of infections only grows since then.

It hit almost 5 millions visits a month a few months ago and most of them come from Indonesia, Vietnam, Colombia, Philippines, Mexico. It also hijacks the new tab website and builds the traffic this way.

How you got infected with Alpha Shoppers?

Alpha Shopper is traveling the same way as most other adware – bundled with various free applications that can be downloaded from the Internet. So when you download and install some freeware from unreliable website, there is a chance that Alpha Shopper will be downloaded and installed alongside without you even being aware of that.

In order to avoid this happening, always pay close attention to the installation process of freeware. Never skip any steps and always opt-out for a custom or advanced install mode if possible. Don’t rush because some of the most important information can be displayed in a very tiny font and you don’t want to overlook that. If it’s too late and your computer is already infected with Alpha Shopper wait no more and get rid of it right now.
