New version of Google Chrome presents safe browsing technology

January 9th, 2012

Malware vendors should be concerned about the new feature which is incorporated in the the latest version of the popular Chrome browser. According to Google Chrome Blog, this feature will warn computer users about the malware that they are going to download from a website.

Though this Safe Browsing technology is not a new thing in other browsers and most of the users are already protected with a help of anti-virus programs, the latest beta version includes ‘expanded functionality to analyze executable files (such as ‘.exe’ and ‘.msi’ files) that you download. If a file you download is known to be bad, or is hosted on a website that hosts a relatively high percentage of malicious downloads, Chrome will warn you that the file appears to be malicious and that you should discard it.’ Earlier versions of Chrome browser have only been warning about the drive-by malware intrusions.

To be more precise, Chrome has been designed to analyze executable files (such as “.exe”) that are downloaded by users. In addition, if the files has been reported to be malicious one, Chrome warns the user that this file is malicious and that you are recomended to discard it.

However, you should still remember that no technical mechanism is powerful enough to protect computer from viruses completely. To avoid secret intrussion of malware, you should always pay attention to the files you are going to download and rely only on reputable sources.
