Microsoft Warns About a Serious IE Security Vulnerability
Users of Microsoft products are probably accustomed to the tradition of Microsoft security updates that are released on the second Tuesday of each month. However, on this month the situation is different and there’s a security hole in Internet Explorer. Microsoft made an announcement that they haven’t even fixed it yet, and it seems so serious that users are advised to apply a workaround fix immediately.
Computers, running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, can be infected by this particular vulnerability after clicking on a hacked video link in Internet Explorer. The fact is that this hole is not a theoretical thing and the attacker gets the ability to remotely take control of victims’ machine by running arbitrary code under the same user rights of the local user. It was clearly stated by Microsoft that malicious hackers exploiting this vulnerability are already aware of.
The users running IE under Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 should disable as soon as possible the problematic part of its software, which can be done from Microsoft’s Web site. The real patch is known to come in seven days, with Microsoft’s regular security update packet.
