Fake TweetDeck updates have been noticed!!!

August 31st, 2010

As you may have heard, Twitter is going to pull support for a programming interface used by TweetDeck and because of that all the old version users will have to update their software. As always, scammers have taken this update as opportunity and let a new scam into the wild.

According to the TweetDeck support center, lately users have been foolishly advised to upload a malicious executable file, called tweetdeck-08302010-update.exe. Trying to stop this misleading campaign, people are warned that “these tweets are from hacked accounts”. “This file does not come from us. Do not download it”, say people from TweetDeck.

It was revealed that this file is a generic Trojan horse program which can be hardly detected by antivirus products. This type of software is invented for downloading different malicious programs into a compromised PC, such as keyloggers that help for scammers to steal users’ passwords and other personal information.

So, you should know that the only real TweetDeck updates can be found on http://www.tweetdeck.com/desktop/ . And of course, security experts recommend to avoid visiting Alturl.com website where fake updates are hosted on.
