Cyber Criminals Have Targeted iPad

April 28th, 2010

The users of iPad should beware of a new malware infection that spreads through malicious email and imitates an update for iTunes program. This badware poses risk to the owners of iPads that run Windows operating system.  The email recommends iPad users downloading the latest version of iTunes in order to update their iPad software. It states that it is very important to keep the software on your iPad updated for best performance, newer features and security. The email also provides you with a link to install the application.

If you go to the website suggested in the email, you will see that it perfectly imitates the place where you could download legitimate updates for iTunes software. However, if you actually download it, you will infect your computer with malware associated as Backdoor.Bifrose.AADY. It’s a code that injects itself into explorer.exe, which gives access to the infected system. Backdoor.Bifrose.AADY poses risk to your confidential information, like passwords of various applications, including Messenger, ICQ and POP3 mail accounts.

The infection is not able to infect Mac costumers, but those who use Windows are highly risking to be infected. Please be careful and do not download anything from unfamiliar sources. The customers of Apple should only trust the updates from the official Apple.com website.

Make sure to use some antivirus program, scan your system frequently and update your antivirus tools as often as possible.
