Beware of New Rogue Facebook Application

June 15th, 2010

Facebook users should be extremely concerned about giving access to their profile information for some Facebook applications. You probably have already seen some Facebook pages that require to be “liked’ in order to get permission to see all page information. We are not trying to say that all of these pages and applications are malicious. However, you should definitely be careful about whom you are giving access to your account.

Many computer users have recently noticed receiving notification in their newsfeeds which promotes Facebook application called “Teacher nearly kills 13 year old boy. SHOCKING”. Once you click on the link, you are redirected to their page. Then you are asked to allow the application access to your public information and posting status messages, notes, photos, videos, etc. on your wall.

Over 190, 000 people have already clicked on that link. As far as we know, the spam link is the only annoying consequence of this application. However, we never know what may follow next when the application has full access to your profile information and what it can post on your wall. In case you received this link and gave it the access to your account, remove it from your profile immediately and any posts by it on your wall as well.

We highly recommend checking your privacy settings on your Facebook account no matter if you have been attacked by this rogue application or not. Make sure you know whom you are giving access to your information.
