The GPhone - what will it be?

The computer-phone concept is a popular one, especially these days and yet another variation of this device will come out soon enough, this time by Google, the ever growing and ever more rich corporation.

The GPhone (deja-vu, anyone?) is still shrouded in mystery and noone has dared to say anything for the record. Some anonymous information, however has been leaked, further raising interest in the product.

Among this gossip exists the fact that Google will try to persuade (a.k.a manipulate) wireless phone makers to offer phones based on its software. The price of these phones, even though still as much a mystery as the Loch Ness monster, is rumoured to be subsized by advertisements that will appear on their screens.

The phone, which is due to be released next year and demysterized later this year, will apparently not be as pretty designwise as the much criticized iPhone, but will instead be something true fans of technology would want to get their hands on. The GPhone will apparently be using open-source Linux software, as an obvious spit in the face of Microsoft. Google’s rationale behind this seems to be leading a competitor against Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.

Microsoft isn’t the only one who should be concerned, most mobile carriers have discarded the use of the popular search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, in favour of ones manufactured by themselves. Should Google take advantage of their software, it would be difficult to compete against.
