Spammers spoof FTC e-mail
The Federal Trade Commission warned that a spam e-mail is being sent out, supposedly coming from the FTC. The message includes links and an attachment that downloads a virus. Simply opening the e-mail does not seem to cause any problem, however, if a attachment is opened or the link is clicked, the virus is downloaded and the ‘key logger’, that could potentially record passwords and account numbers, is installed.
Originating e-mail adress frauddep@ftc.gov is fraudulent and while it includes FTC seal, it has grammatical errors, misspelings and incorrect syntax. FTC has asked everyone, who has received such messages to forward them to spam@uce.gov and delete them.
SophosLabs informed last week, that United States circulated stunning 28.4% of spam, that is five times more than South Korea, number two country with 5.2%.
