Spam decrease

Although usually spam increases by this time of year it seems that this time things got different. The investigation made through data has shown rather surprising results: the legitimate email spam have decreased.

Spammers have recently changed their tactics to hide the spam. They used PDF and Excel files. However, investigators claim that it’s not the main reason of spam decrease. In their opinion it’s simply because many people are on holidays. 

This change in spammers’ tactics is a concern for businesses that don’t have adequate protection. According to whatpc.co.uk spam that was once stopped before it reached those users’ inbox is now getting through, leaving the holidaymaker returning to not just a full work load, but an inbox full of junk mail too.

Not only spam has decreased. Virus levels and phishing style viruses (phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information and use it for such purposes as stealing money) are also down. While talking about phishing it’s hard to decide whether it is really a decrease or due to a dip in activity, for phishing attacks are usually distributed in waves of attacks. In case it’s not a decrease this holiday period may cause a lot of stolen data and money. 

Spam decrease period is said to be very temporary. Therefore individuals and businesses are suggested to take care of their system by installing certain anti-virus software.
