Spammers have engineered a new type of spam-mail, one that appeals to a user's feeling of guilt. The new spam mail appears to be from a private eye and states that the user is being watched and that there is a sample of his/her phone conversation in the attachment to the message.
The attachment is a compressed file with a password. It appears to be an mp3 file so as not to arouse suspicion. When the user opens this file, he gets infected with malware. There is no reason to think that this malware does harm to the computer, but is rather used to steal information or, perhaps, to turn the computer into a bot. “You’re being watched”, "The tape of your conversation" and “I’m monitoring you" are only some of the Matrix-like spam-mail subjects these spammers use.
The general tactic is quite reminiscent of the early Storm tactics, where users would be lured into downloading malware by using supposed news reports of a war that broke out between Russia and the US and so on.
