New trojan at large

January 7th, 2008

The new kind of malware parasite roams the internet – a trojan that locks up your PC and prompts you to dial a pay-per-minute 900-number if you want your computer back in working condition. Once inside, this parasite displays a message that must have been written by a monkey: "Browser Security and Antiadware Software component license exprited! (sic)" and tells the victim to dial the specified number in order to get rid of the parasite.

The interesting thing is, this trojan can apparently discern the infected computer’s location, by country. Research has been made using several computers from the UK and France, and the parasite popped up local telephone numbers. It is a guess whether this trojan is an upcoming trend in malware or if it is just one of the cybercriminals’ experiments with new scamming techniques, but internet security experts already have their eyes on this one.
