Monster Trojan on the loose
Symantec.com conducted a research on the new Trojan.Monstres that has been attacking the Monster.com online community. The results of this research were surprising to say the least, as Trojan.Monstres is a low profile parasite, and the fact that it managed to steal several hundred thousand identities from a well-known website was somewhat phenomenal.
According to Symantec, "only connections to the hiring.monster.com and recruiter.monster.com subdomains were being made. These subdomains belong to the “Monster for employers” only site, the section used by recruiters and human resources personnel to search for potential candidates, post jobs to Monster, et cetera. This site requires recruiters to log in to view information on candidates."
What was discovered later proved to unveil the secret of the tremendous success Trojan.Monstres managed to make. It actually used the login detail of Monster.com recruiters themselves to gather personal user information. Further research showed that Trojan.Monstres was actually a semi-clone of Trojan.Gpcoder.E. However, with the compromised recruiters’ accounts disabled, this new threat seems to be over for good. At least for a time being.
