Interface – high technology tool

July 26th, 2007

An interface defines the communication boundary between two entities, such as a piece of software, a hardware device or a user. It generally refers to an abstraction that as entity provides of itself to the outside. Interface is commonly used to actively spam multiple products.

Symantec.com gives an example of an interface currently used, that has ability to group by country. As far as you can see only one bot, located in Poland, you may start thinking that the owner actually is in Poland. Yet, the fact that interfaces’ text is all in English is a bit confusing, moreover, it was found on the Russian server. These facts could lead to a conclusion that the controlling machine is located in Poland; still it is just an assumption.

Spamming may be efficient if the right configurations are used. According to Symantec.com, although some files may be incomplete, but if options are presumably fed it may be used to create the email they (spammers) will ultimately spam.

The number of active bots is rather low, yet the number of inactive ones is definitely worrisome. About quarter million machines are compromised with a bot, usually inactive, yet possibly dangerous.

Generally speaking creating malware requires time, efforts, knowledge and funding. Well qualified computer specialists or hackers are now creating highly qualified Trojans and spam bots that use interfaces and are now referred to as high technology tools.
