Increasingly dangerous email spam

October 2nd, 2007

As high as 90% of email spamming is now used to steal sensitive data, such as passwords and banking information or to infect users’ computers with various viruses and spyware. Moreover, fight against spam seems to be very limited.

First of all the battle seems to be so hard because according to torontosun.com a recent survey estimated that from 60% to 90% of email all email is spam. The accurate number depends only on a certain day.

Spam is now considered to be more than just a nuisance. It’s becoming increasingly dangerous and although information about possible threats is available for any internet users, the practice continues to find victims.

The only fact that makes the situation better is that users are starting to use security software more and more willingly. There has also been a decrease in users’ responses to phishing attacks (just as spam, used to steal personal data).

Torontosun.com stated that legislation in and of itself is pretty much useless, because the marketplace and consumer demands drive change much faster than legislation.
