Google urges to rally against malware websites

After massive hacker attacks in November 2007 and January 2008, with more than 110.000 websites infected with malicious code, the likelihood of hitting a dangerous site has increased drastically. The main reason for this is that all that it takes for your system to get attacked by hackers is just one click away: if Google displays the infected website in its search page and you click it, the site will execute malicious code and you will be attacked.

This prompted Google to launch its own campaign against such potential attacks: it launched an online form for reporting a site that internet users believe might contain malicious code. However, despite the company’s steps to eliminate the impact of comment spam on its search result rankings, the use of SEO techniques is growing in the online criminal underground. This is why Google has started to cooperate with online security companies in order to prevent hackers from expanding their malware networks. It seems that the search engine giant has recognized the November and January attacks as a serious threat to their own interests, and is using whatever resources at hand to combat this decrease in security.
