As researchers have noted already, attacks usually come in waves that rise, crest and then subside. After few weeks of silence the crew, responsible for spreading the Storm Trojan came up with new ideas. They’re sending out new emails, leading to a new exploit-filled website and a laughing cat.
The most common attack types to seed malware have been e-mail messages, containing attachments or a link to malicious websites. Those sites then infect visiting PCs by convincing users to click on links that download an executable file, or simply using drive-by downloads.
The new messages, that were started to send out last week, bear the text “Here is the new Psycho cat card”, it contains a link to a URL. Whoever clicks the link, enters the site and sees a Shockwave clip of laughing kitten, complete with soundtrack. The site is loaded with drive-by exploits and links to the “SuperLaugh.exe” executable. This file is the latest variation of Storm, so wherever you click you get nothing but Nuwar.
