Cyber-criminal from California caught
A man from California, known to the online community as "silenZ", "sZ" or "GregK", was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of electronic transmission of code to cause damage to protected computers. The defendant, Greg King, has allegedly attacked the websites of two businesses using a botnet of around 7,000 PCs. The websites are Killanet and an anti-fraud and anti-malware site castlecops.com.
"When agents went to arrest King at his residence on Monday morning, King went out the back door of the residence carrying a laptop computer, depositing it in the bushes in the backyard," the U.S. Attorney’s said in a statement. "Agents obtained a warrant to search King’s backyard and seized the computer."
Assuming he is convicted, King may get the maximum sentence of 10 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.
This is one of the string of arrests of cyber-criminals made by the FBI and the U.S. Secret Service this year, which includes Robert Alan Soloway, also known as "The Spam King" and quite a few others.
