Anti-virus sofware for consoles released
Recently, full-fledged internet surfing has become a privilege enjoyed not only by PC, laptop and palm users, but also by console owners. However, no benefit is without its consequences. With the ability to browse gaming websites, comes the danger of encountering malicious code from dangerous sites. Although a time for a console virus pandemic has not yet come, internet security experts are already thinking of ways to improve console security.
Trend Micro, one of the leading companies in anti-virus software market, has recently launched the first ever anti-virus software for Play Station 3. The application will be able to block websites containing malicious code and those dealing with drugs, violence and pornography. Even though the program is available for free with a PS3 upgrade patch, console users will have to pay up eventually, starting from April, 2008.
It still remains to be seen as to how effective a protection this anti-virus tool will turn out to be, because frankly, our team hasn’t seen a user who performs banking operations using his gaming console. However, with the direction our society seems to be taking up considering sheer stupidity and simple-mindedness, it is a fairly safe bet to assume that eventually, such things will happen.
